History

two togetherChuckanut Retrievers is a small hobby kennel located in Bellingham, Washington, about as far NW as you can get. We have been very active in the sport of dogs as a whole, competing in conformation, field and performance events.

Ken has served as the Western Regional Director for the Golden Retriever Club of America for 4 years as a volunteer

We had five Goldens that we put either a WC, CD, or Can Championship on before we acquired what we consider our foundation, each one was invaluable to us as friends as well as teaching us just how wonderful this breed truly is.

We have had some incredible success as breeders, and owner handlers. Some favorite owner handled wins include Best of Breed at many GRCA Specialty Shows.

At Various GRCA National Specialties, We Have Won:

• BEST IN SWEEPSTAKES

• BEST IN VETERAN SWEEPSTAKES

• WINNERS DOG

• WINNER’S BITCH

• BEST OF OPPOSITE SEX

• WINNER OF THE STUD DOG CLASS

• WINNER OF THE TOP TWENTY GALA

• As well as several class placements and JAM’s
Our History001

We have also been blessed with a breeder/owner/handled All Breed Best in Show Winner.  Of course, our most notable owner handled win was: Best of Breed and Group 1st at the Westminster Kennel Club Show at Madison Square garden.

Our History002Since that day, we have taken a step back from shows, and our focus has been less on winning and ribbons and more of my free time is spent hunting over our dogs, gaining a better understanding of what makes a good golden retriever and why.

In an effort to keep it simple, we do not display or list every Champion or titled dog we’ve ever owned or bred on this site, but rather the key players in our line.If you have questions about another dog not listed here, feel free to contact us. We love to “talk dogs” and will be happy to answer any questions.

Being aware that most of our puppies go into family homes, and knowing that temperament is the hallmark of this breed, we keep that paramount in our breeding decisions. We are also very aware and concerned about cancer issues and make every effort possible to select breeding stock which pedigrees show strength in longevity.

This site was not designed to promote stud dogs or sell puppies, as much as to tell our story and show a bit of history to you, so that you may have a clear understanding of our line and introduce some older dogs that you may have in your pedigree or in the pedigree’s you are thinking about using. Enjoy your visit and let us know what you think.
